About the Poringland Singers

Past, Present & Future

The Poringland Singers is a mixed-voice choir, founded on the 10th of January 1986, with an original membership of 25. Our repertoire originally comprised sacred works, with some Gilbert and Sullivan interlaced, as well as carol services for our local school.

Under the direction of several conductors, the choir has evolved and diversified over the years, as our local profile has grown.  The Poringland Singers have been invited to perform at a number of spectacular locations across Norfolk, as well as elsewhere in the UK, Ireland and the Isle of Man.

The Choir has also appeared on local television and radio, as the backing ensemble for Russell Watson at the Royal Estate, Sandringham and Hylands House, Chelmsford. The Poringland Singers also provided vocals for the 2010 Christmas-themed Doctor Who audio drama “Doctor Who: Relative Dimensions”.

The choir has grown and now numbers over 40 regular members from across a wide area.   Our broad repertoire still includes some sacred works, complemented by popular classics, contemporary songs, and songs from the shows.

The current musical director, Terry Cunnane, joined in May 2022, replacing Ian Elliott, who had led the choir for over 15 years.  Terry has brought a different dimension to the choir, raising the bar in terms of music complexity and variety.  We look forward to his tenure and exciting things to come.
