Mark Thompson

Accompanist

Born in Malvern, Mark was educated in Ditcham Park, Hants and Douai Abbey, Berkshire – both Benedictine-run private schools.  At Ditcham Park, he started piano lessons at the age of 8.  At Douai, he went on to study organ and flute in his final year

On leaving school in 1974, Mark qualified as a chef before joining the Royal Air Force where he served for 22 years. His musical skills were much in demand playing organ for local Sunday services and assisting military bands while stationed in Germany.

However, his most notable event must be playing for ‘The Panto’, Mount Pleasant Airport, Falkland Islands. On leaving the RAF Mark became a mobile library driver and still enjoys this role more than 23 years later.  Mark became the Poringland Singers’ accompanist in 2004 and enjoys the challenge of their wide-ranging repertoire
